When dark is all and light is none

If the world were in my head there’d be no sun

Until my arms hold that which holds my head

My head will hold the dark for that which made you gone.

Until your silhouette invades the borders of my sight

I’ll let a flare ignite the world and face the judge of light.

And if light were the judge and darkness was a crime

One day gold won’t seem brighter

And last names won’t matter

All coins in a gutter as close as a lover

who’s heart is a cover for

Bitter affairs.

One day we’ll discover

That laughter was power

And as we got older

Hilarity caved

So let us decline

To the hardships of time

And accept in a our prime our adequate fate

No matter how swift

We’ll always be late

We might as well drift

Towards saint peter’s cruel gate

And if ghosts made you shutter

They won’t even bother

Cause you’ll see through their eyes the demise of a dream

With his creation Years, Bartholomäus Traubeck attempts to answer that question by using a turntable, PlayStation Eye Camera, a stepper motor to control the arm, and computer running Ableton Live. As you’ll hear in the video above, the rings of the tree trunk, as interpreted by this piece, create an eerie and ominous piano track that sounds like it was taken from psychological horror film. Who knew trees were so emo?

Every decision we make, every task that we partake, every wish blown against the kindled years on every antic cake, every faded coin rusting in the bottom of a sturdy lake, every dent proudly worn as we pay life’s lavish rake, is a cue to overturn, to bear in mind, to let them know, to withstand time, to avow that no matter where our bones unhurriedly come to be part of life’s odd scenery, the tears we shed, the laughs that bind, new friends we make, the ones behind, peace and hate, soul and mind, passions raised that soon unwind,  fear of death and love so blind, song and dance, space and grind, the sun that sets, the stars we find, are things we share with all mankind. -J.C
